MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Holly Feltner
Holly is our lead trip planner, and is passionate about being on the water. Her main water-life love is her paddleboard…she finds kayaks constraining. Outside of life on the water, she loves all things “animals and nature”, and loves paddleboarding with her dog. Holly grew up in Kansas “where the sunrises & sunsets are just as good as the lowcountry”. Her husband is involved with flight safety and she has two academically & athletically inclined children. Holly worked as a tour guide for Outside Hilton Head for 4 years, most of the tours were for SUP. She received her Master Naturalist certification, and went on to work for the Disney Resorts locally, as their Master Naturalist. Her current job is the most important one…taking care of family. Holly is also a certified Paddleboard instructor, and along with her paddling partner, Kent Grimes, has paddleboarded her way around more than 15 local islands. One of her favorite trips was the first half of the Combahee River, and she’s loved each island circumnavigation trip as well. We’ll have to ask her about her trip to Morgan (Monkey) Island. While our kayak club doesn’t normally include paddleboards (YET), Holly will run circles around a kayak on her board. If any of you are interested in SUP instruction, connect with Holly. She says the aspects of kayaking/paddleboarding that are most important to her are Safety First, knowing the tides, feeling the winds and reading the water. (o.k. Holly, be prepared for lots of phone calls!) Holly is greatly interested in recording details about trip notes, so should have lots of good info to use for our planning purposes! Poor Holly….her family just moved into their HHP house just a few days before the hurricane...”move in/now leave”…..but boy! Are we glad she connected with us! Holly has a wealth of information to pass on….for those of you eager to learn, please do make use of her experience!!
