Important Messages for Paddlers
What equipment do I need to bring on a paddle ...
In addition to the obvious items you need to bring when paddling, like your kayak, your paddle, a personal flotation device (PFD), and enough drinking water (or electrolyte drink) for the expected duration of the paddle, the one additional item that you may not realize the U.S. Coast Guard requires is a whistle that can be used in the event that you experience problems of any kind when you are on the water. Remember to attach it to you PFD before leaving on a paddle. If you need to purchase one, they can be found at outdoor stores or even Walmart, in the sporting goods section of the store.

Opting out of a paddle for which you signed up ...
Occasionally, paddling event participants may need to cancel. Remember that the paddle coordinators are responsible for filling out a Float Plan, which includes the names and contact information for each participant. It is understood that occasionally last minute cancellations are necessary, but it is definitely unacceptable to just not show up. It puts the paddle coordinator in a bind. He/she is, by rule, expected to contact each person that does not arrive at the launch point 10 minutes prior to the scheduled launch time (see the Paddle Coordinator responsibilities on the Planning & Safety page). So, please make every effort to notify the Paddle Coordinator in a timely manner should you be unable to participate in any paddle for which you have signed up.
